The Selamec Spot-On Story, Cure for Sarcoptic Mange (Scabies) in Dogs (English)
We couldn’t figure out how to cure our 10-year-old pet Chhotokukur Kenny’s sarcoptic mange (scabies). For a month, Hitek injection was given subcutaneously once a week. No improvement. Then we tried spraying with Ridd Solution—another disaster, maybe because she’s an epilepsy patient. Ridd’s strong smell disturbed his nervous system, but we finally discovered the Selamec method.
Why does Sarcoptic Mange occur?
Sarcoptic mange (commonly called scabies) is a highly contagious skin disease in dogs. It is caused by a microscopic mite called Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis (parasites that can only be seen under a microscope).
Main causes and contributing factors:
1. Parasitic cause:
Direct cause: Infestation by Sarcoptes scabiei mites.
These mites burrow into the skin, lay eggs, and cause intense itching, inflammation, and skin damage.
2. Modes of transmission:
Direct contact: From an infected dog to a healthy dog (most common route).
Indirect contact: Through contaminated bedding, grooming tools, collars, or the environment (mites can survive in these for 2–3 weeks).
Can also spread from wild animals (e.g., foxes, coyotes).
3. Risk factors:
-Crowded environments (shelters, kennels, breeding centers).
-Weakened immunity (puppies, senior dogs, or ill dogs).
-Poor nutrition or hygiene, which weakens skin defenses.
-Outdoor exposure to infected stray or wild animals.
4. Transmission to humans (Zoonotic potential):
Sarcoptes scabiei mites can temporarily infest humans, causing itching and rashes, but they usually cannot reproduce on human skin.
👉 In short: Sarcoptic mange is caused by Sarcoptes mites, spreads mainly through direct contact, and thrives in conditions of weak immunity, stress, or overcrowding.
