Product Description
Raksharab is a high-potency, inactivated cell culture rabies vaccine manufactured by Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL). This 5ml multi-dose vial is specifically formulated to provide robust immunity against the fatal rabies virus in domestic animals, including dogs, cats, cattle, horses, sheep, and goats.
Key Features & Specifications
  • High Potency Formula: Contains inactivated rabies virus (Pitman-Moore strain) with a minimum potency of > 2.5 I.U. per dose, ensuring reliable antibody production in such critical cases as post bite or post exposure situations.
  • Advanced Cell Culture: Propagated in the BHK-21 cell line and inactivated with an aziridine compound for maximum safety and efficacy.
  • Adjuvanted for Strength: Includes aluminium hydroxide gel to enhance the immune response and provide longer-lasting protection.
  • Versatile Application: Indicated for both Prophylactic (Preventive) routine immunization and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) following a suspected rabid animal bite.
Dosage and Administration
  • Recommended Dose: 1 ml per animal, regardless of weight or breed.
  • Administration Route: Subcutaneous (SC) or Intramuscular (IM) injection, depending upon severity of exposure considered by doctor.
  • Target Age: Suitable for healthy animals aged 3 months and above.
  • Schedule:
    • Prophylactic: Initial dose at 3 months with an annual booster in endemic areas.
    • Post-Bite: Administered in a series of  4 to 5 doses as per veterinary guidance to stop the virus before it reaches the nervous system.
Storage Requirements
To maintain potency, Raksharab must be stored and transported within a strict cold chain between 2°C and 8°C. It should never be frozen and must be protected from direct sunlight.
Usage Notes
  • Only vaccinate healthy animals. Parasitic infestations or malnutrition may interfere with the vaccine’s effectiveness.
  • Always consult a licensed veterinarian for administration and specific post-bite protocols.
