On topical application, due to its selective affinity for sebaceous glands and skin, it spreads rapidly through pets hair coat within 24 hours. A part of this spot on is absorbed into systemic circulation through skin. Absorption is more in cats than in dogs due to thin skin and the behavioral licking by cats. The half life is 14 hours in dogs and 69 hours in cats.
